Within a short drive
- Bergerac is the capital of Perigord Purple. It has interesting cultural and historical heritage. It has festivals throughout the spring, summer and autumn. In May it hosts a jazz festival. From July until the beginning of September there is always something happening with music, dance and theatre. There are many excellent restaurants and bistros. Down in the cobbled streets of the old town there are many ancient buildings. You can soak up the wonderful atmosphere meander the narrow streets enjoy the beautiful individual shops and boutiques. There are Bars, cafes, bistros, ice- cream parlours , places to sit and watch the world go by. At the riverside you can enjoy a boat trip on the Gabarre. This is a traditional flat bottomed boat that plyed it's trade on the river Dordogne over the centuries. The trip lasts 1 hour. You can visit the local wine museum and tobacco museum.
- Mouleydier is just 5minutes in the car from our location. Here you will find a selection of small shops, Bar, Boulangerie, Tabac/newsagent, Pizza takeaway, Bank with Cash ATM, Doctor's surgery. This is where you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the banks of the Dordogne river. If you are interested in fishing you can enquiry at the local Mairie's Office regarding a permit. At the Salle de Fete there is an area to play Pétanque (boule).
- Issigeac is a medieval town famous for it's picture postcard buildings. It is a lovely place to while away the hours. It is famous for its Sunday Market which is one of the busiest markets in the area. The narrow streets are full of interest stalls all local produce, also craft stalls everything you could want to see on your holidays. There are pretty boutiques, antique shop, pottery shops, lots of artists have places you can enjoy there art, jewellery shops several cafes and Bars and some of the best restaurants in the area. There is a fantastic holiday atmosphere especially in the summer months when it has lots of tourists. Two of the restaurants are mentioned in the Michelin Guide 2017. Enjoy!
- Chateau de Monbazillac the medieval architecture offers you a glimpse of that period. There are stunning panoramic views over the Dordogne valley and Bergerac. The Chateau is open to the public. The vines surrounding the chateau produce the property's famous sweet wine. There is a tourist centre where you can have a guided tour of the Chateau, wine tasting, coffee area, small restaurant. There is a large parking area which is free. The chateau itself is a fantastic structure and you can explore its grounds as well as visit the inside of the building. You can sample the wines. You can enjoy Lunch or drinks in the cafe at the entrance to the chateau. The gift shop is filled with local specialties.
